Question limited connectivity with vista
I have a windows vista x64 and I have problem to connect to internet via wireless connection. Actually the connection to the network is fine, but I cannot surf the net and a Limited Connectivity error is shown.
The strange thing is that if I change room everything on my computer works fine. For example, while in the livingroom, with a full wirless signal, I have limited connectivity, in the bedroom I can surf the net perfectly.

The router (D-Link) is in the livingroom and the bedroom is further!

I don't wont to work in my bedroom for a lifetime!!!
How can I solve the problem?

I also have 2 other computers, one with vista x86 and the other with xp, but they connect to internet perfectly even from the livingroom.

Thank you,
Francesco

I don't mean to be insulting, fmarmo, but are you absolutely sure that you are connecting to (or trying to connect to) your network, and not a neighbor's?

Please show the following for your computer successfully connected and for another one ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

ipconfig\all: done
Thanks for the answer, TerryNet. I'm pretty sure I'm connecting to the right network.
Anyway I report the ipconfig output for my laptop (Computer A) both in the bedroom (where the internet connection is OK) and in the livingroom (where I have limited connectivity).
Also I report the ipconfig output for the other laptop (Computer B).
Let me know...

OK, computer A seems to be connected to the same network computer B is, but I cannot really tell, partly because computer B is using a static IP configuration.

As near as I can tell Computer A's living room and bedroom ipconfig /all are exactly the same. Exactly the same. I can imagine no reason why you would see "Limited Connectivity" in either location, nor why internet access would be different in the two locations.

Could there be a sort of interference? How would I solve the problem in this case?

Why not enable DHCP on them all the time and do the tests again. This will tell us more than the static configuration, which leaves no clues as to what is happening.

There could be interference, and different computers can react differently to the same interference. But with router and two computers in the same room (both using wireless) I would not expect one to be working great and the other to not have internet access. And having a good IP configuration is not consistent with the "Limited Connectivity" message.

TerryNet, it seems there's no solution...

JohnWill, what is DHTP and how do I enable it?

He means to use dynamic addressing, instead of static, on Computer B.

To configure a dynamic IP address on your Windows Vista computer:

1. Click Start.
2. Select Network, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Manage network connections from the list of tasks.
3. Right click your local area connection and click Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list and click the Properties button.
5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
6. Select Obtain DNS Server address automatically.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Close.
