Unhappy Linksys Router/Easy Link Advisor issue
I have now spent 3 days working on this problem and have gotten nowhere.

I have never had problems with my Internet, but last week I had my computer scanned, so I moved my internet* to my basement for a more direct hookup to my laptop. It worked fine down there, but when I brought it back up to my desktop, it didn't work at all.

I checked everything, I replaced wires, I re-arranged wires, and none of it worked. I re-hooked it up in my basement...nothing.

But, I removed the router from the "flow"(so just my modem) and the Internet works fine, but when I try to add the router back in, I get the "Local Area Connection", but the Internet doesn't actually work. And on my laptop and gaming systems**, it picks up the connection, but the Internet doesn't actually work.

When I go to the Linksys Easy Link Advisor*** to try and just set it up as a whole new network and start with scratch****, it says that there is no internet connection even though I checked after I saw that and had no problems with it working.

My question is...does anyone know what is going on, and can explain to me what it is and how to fix it?

* - I have Netzero DSL, 2Wire Modem, and Linksys WRT54G v8 router
** - my family has 2 laptops and the gaming systems are Wii, PSP, DS, and iPod Touch
*** - Came with the router
**** - scratch: just modem and computer

Welcome to TSG.
So,my guess would be that in the process of direct plugging to the modem(I assume that is what you did(more direct hookup),the modems view of your network was modified(no router).
Here is what I might do.
Power off the router and modem.

Power on the router and then modem.
If that does not work,I would start from scratch(not hard to do)I've attached a tutorial from Linksys that describes the process pretty well.
Read the instructions carefully and do exactly as they say.
I've had to do this a few times and it has never failed to restore my network.

And while you are at it,I would go to the linksys site and download the most current firmware for your router version

Good luck

I'll try that, but how do I install firmware?

Download the firmware update, noting where it is saved.
Log onto your router/admin/firmware upgrade
and browse to the file that you have saved and hit the upgrade button.
Your current firmware version is listed at the top right of the routers login page.
It appears that the current firmware for v8.0(if that is your current version) is dated 1/18/2008 version8.00.5.
