Unhappy can't access laptop shared folders on home network
hi, can anyone help?

i am having problems accessing shared folder on one of my laptops on my home network.

my network currently comprisies,

network printer
sky wireless router
desktop pc running XP sp3
laptop A running Vista 32 bit
laptop B running XP sp3 (was originally running Vista 32 bit)

Where i am at the momment,

everything has full access to the internet
everything can see each other in the workgroup
the desktop and laptop A can fully communicate with each other (all shared folders are avalible and accessable)
the promblem lies with laptop B which is new to the work group.

i have manged to add laptop B to the workgroup as both laptop A and the desktop can see it.

when i try and acccess laptop B from the desktop i get the following error message" \\Orla is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. ", "the network path was not found"

when i try and access laptop B from the desktop i get a similar message " windows cannot access \\orla " "error code 0x80070035 " when i run the diagmostics it says " orla is not a valid host name"

when i try and access either Laptop A or the desktop from laptop B, i get the following error message " \\Orla is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. ", "the network path was not found"

i have to say i have tried allsorts to try and get this working,

1. 1st created new workgroup and wireless network
2. made sure that all the devices could see each other and were trusted on Norton 360 "my network"
3. i've checked all devices names and work group are fine.

if any one has any suggestions, i would be greatfull.

cheers.

Could be a non-Windows firewall (Norton 360 is an excellent candidate) on laptop B. For laptop B please reboot it and then show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following commands:

nbtstat -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Laptop B--you don't need ipv6 and it sometimes causes problems so I suggest you get rid of it with ...

Start - Run - ipv6 uninstall - OK

But, the real problem is ...

(from a JohnWill post)

The Peer-Peer node is the issue.
Create a file with the following contents in NOTEPAD. Save it as NETFIX.REG from the File menu of notepad.

--------------------------------------- Include data after this line ---------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters]

"NodeType"=-
"DhcpNodeType"=-
---------------------------------- include data before this line -----------------------------

Double click the file and say Yes to the merge question. Reboot and see if you're cookin' again.
