There was a previous post also title "can't access google" which is now dead. It's very similiar to my problem, except I'm the only one busted at my house. Here's what's up with mine. I can't access google.com or gmail.com--can't ping or browse with firefox or ie. I can access maps.google.com, images.google.com, etc. and every other web site. I can also access google.co.uk. I cannot ping the blocked sites. I have run all spyware etc., I have done the ipconfig release renew, flushed the dns cache, did a nslookup, i checked and double checked my firewall logs, checked my browser security settings, tried to go direct to the ip. Every other computer in the home network can access the sites. I added the addresses to a hosts file and it made no difference. I'm running XP.

first things to check:
might check the 'restricted websites' in your bowser,
also might depend upon if your anti-virus has, or if you have installed, one of those 'hold-your-hand' type applications, a 'content filter'

No restricted sites, no content filter. Everything was fine for years. Also, it doesn't work in IE either, so it's not specific to firefox. Thanks for trying though...

That's not a Google IP address, so it's no surprise that you can't access it.

Start, Run, NOTEPAD c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS.

Select all and copy and paste to a message here.

OMG. There was nothing but localhost and two google addresses. I deleted them and restarted and google is back. Thanks so much!!!
