Hello

I have 3 pcs ( all XP ) in my lan. I have just bought a external hard drive ( NOT A NAS). (All connected directly to netcomm nb9w router)

I want to share this hard drive on all three computers.

How do i do this ????

to do this, connect it to any one of the three computers, right-click on the drive in my computer, and click on share.

Give the drive a share name, let's say for our purposes you call it edrive. And let's say you connected it to a computer called ssnodell.

On all other computers, it should show up in My Network Places.

You can gain access to the drive by opening run (Windows Key + R) and typing //ssnodell/edrive.

You can then make a shortcut to this on the desktop.

also one more thing

thw way u suggested will work only if the computer the drive is physically connected to always stays on for other to access it.

i dont mind that but just for arguments sake is there any other way in which i can access it by any computer regardless of the computer it is attached to be on or off

You could buy a router such as the Linksys WRTSL54GS which has a USB input and can share an external drive over a network rather like a Network Attached Storage device.

Many Network Attached Storage devices also have this feature if you're willing to invest in one.

Some USB print servers might also have the feature built in.
