TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults:

netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

After you do that please do the following:

Basic IP Tests

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers> (Note: if empty or same as Default Gateway use: 4.2.2.2)

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address>
- The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address>
- The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the DNS Server, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

not sure that i follow that =/ But i think i need to clarify a little. I re-read my post and it doesnt sound right.

I have a Dell Computer with Windows Xp. After i updated to SP3 from SP2 my wireless internet does not connect. It says the it is unplugged but it is listed and all my other computers connect. Ive tried to unplug and re plug it in, repair, and restart my computer. nothing.

Thanks again!

Now you have confused me. How is your "wireless internet" unplugged? How do you unplug and re plug it in? Do you mean you have an external adapter and it is not recognized in Device Manager?

It's not unusual to have a connection problem after installing SP3, but it is unusual to be able to connect wired but not wireless or vice versa. I'd still do the repairs and show the ipconfig /all per neonfx's post.

ok.. I have 3 computers.. Here is how i have wireless. the modem is hooked up to the router which is gives out the signal to the recievers that are hooked up to the computers. the computer that doesnt have internet acces anymore says that there is a signal in the area and is strong. but it cannot be repaired.

??? 20 minutes ago you said you had a good ethernet connection. But only to the router, not internet access?

Have you done the repairs? Ready to show the ipconfig /all now?

Right, if you would please click on your Start button (on the bottom left of you screen), click on the Run button and type in CMD in the text field that comes up then press OK.

You will see a new window come up that has a black background, here I want you to type all the instructions I gave you in my reply and then give us the results by Right clicking anywhere on that screen, and clicking on "Select All". Once it is all selected, press Enter and this action will copy the information to your clipboard so you can Paste it in your next response. (You might have to save it as a text file and transfer it to a different computer that has internet access)

The IPCONFIG will tell us exactly what kind of a setup you have so we don't have to keep guessing.

I sometimes miss things and sometimes misinterpret. But, in this case, you did not say you did the repairs neonfx posted. You also haven't posted the other information.

We cannot be of much help when you don't provide the requested information and keep contradicting yourself.
