Unhappy Solved: Printer on Network
Hello ya
Thanks in Advance,
I'm a new member and I'll stay in here

Alright, this is my problem..
I run win xp sp3
You see at my office, we have a printer, that we need to share to the network, we have 4 pc's, 1 desktop and 3 laptops, I created a network so we can share the printer, the network seems to be working fine because this laptop, can find the printer looking through the network name, when I go to control panel, fax and printers, add printer, I select browse for printer, and I'm able to see the printer under the network name...
But the other 2 laptops can't see it, I've tried everything that I think it will work but it doesn't...
Can anyone give me any ideas please?

I've tried this.. \\network name\printer name
Also.. Going to my network places, and looking for the printer there but it won't let me see the network info, I think it might be that the laptops are not connecting to the network, they're connected to the internet wireless, and when I go in the desktop, the one that has the printer plug'd in, I go to my network places and go, I can see the other 3 laptops plugged in, but I can only see the shared folders in this one, not the other 2 laptops.

Please help lol, its frustrating..

Do you have a network printer (connected directly to the router by ethernet or wireless) or a printer connected directly to one of the computers?

Please show for a computer that can connect to the printer and for one that cannot ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following commands:

nbtstat -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

The printer is connected directly to a desktop, and the desktop is the host for the network if I could say.
I haven't been able to be at the location where the printer is so I can post the ipconfig/all information, but one question.
Just in case they don't match, what could I do?
Or do y'all have to look at it first?

If your running XP Pro then bring up a folder (doesn't matter which) and go to Tools>Folder Options>View then scroll all the way down to the bottom and un-check the "Use simple file sharing" check box.

After that, then share out the printer, and try connecting to it again.

The answer to the IPCONFIG question is that we don't know what the action is until we see the results.

The ipconfig /all outputs show that both PCs are connected to the same network.

Please show the nbstat -n for all 4 computers, and identify the one with the printer directly attached. These outputs should give a good clue whether the problem is NetBIOS or firewall(s). FWIW my suspicion is firewall(s).

The issue is resolved with the firewall change?
