I'm running service pack 3 now, & WPA . Ive tried hex, etc. Xp connects when it feels like it, and if not you just have to unplug & retry untill it pleases it to connect. I write this from jaunty, whilst downloading wine. Seems that this end is still working.
P.S. I'm starting to think it's a driver issue.

service pack 3 iIthink - or whatever's latest. I am now able to connect after a few tries. Unplugging the usb dongle seems pretty infallible. The worst thing is that jaunty now mucks around if the automatic connection isn't done at bootup. Are-connect fixes that.

Are you using XP's Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) or your adapter's wireless utility to manage the Wi-Fi connection? Whichever you are using, make sure the other one is not running. And then try using the other one instead because sometimes one works OK while the other one doesn't.

In Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services - Wireless Zero Configuration should be Started if you are using it; if not using it should not be Started and its Startup Type should be 'Disabled.'
