Unhappy Wireless networking DNS address Changes
When our old Dlink Wireless router bust, we installed a Linksys WRT110 connected to our broadband connection. The old XP PC is directly connected and works just fine and the printer works on the network.
The problem is with my Vista laptop. It immediately found the wireless network, I can get to the linksys admin page and I can print. The problem is with accessing the internet.
It works fine when I plug an ethernet cable in but was refusing to access it wirelessly.
We have narrowed the problem down to the DNS setting on the laptop. It keeps resetting to 192.168.0.1 when it needs to be set to 192.168.1.1. I can get it to work when I connect to the wireless network and then go in and change the DNS setting. But it resets when the laptop hibernates, or is closed down. The same thing is happenning in my zonealarm firewall.
We've tried setting it to obtain DNS server address automatically, but again it resets to 192.168.0.1.
Can you help with fixing this permenently?

First off, remove all the stored wireless profiles on the Vista machine and search for your network again, enter the encryption key and connect. That should get it's mind right.

If that doesn't do it, try this.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
