I have to believe it's some errant registry entry or perhaps a group policy that is restricting access.

The first thing, and about the only thing, that pops into my mind is "reinstall (or Recover) Vista." But I don't wanna just say that and hit "post reply" because I reviewed the thread and "but then I reinstalled vista and nothing worked" stands out.

Was this from an install DVD or Recovery disks or a Recovery Partition?

Do you recall any glitches in the process? How soon did you discover the problem? That last question really means, "what applications did you install before testing file sharing?".

Would it be okay to "repair" vista?

If you've truly done a fresh install of Vista and the issue still exists, I'm not sure what a repair will accomplish...

Which is why my questions in post # 18 are relevant.

I had vista working fine, then I had to Reinstall it for some unknown purpose and ever since then it never worked with networking.
