Unhappy Pinged the remote host...did not recieve a response
So i set up my computer on my schools network...everything worked fine..i was able to connect to their wireless network and i was able to use the ethernet cord in my room and was able to access the internet. i go to sleep one night, wake up the next and im getting:

"Local Area Only"
....Along with
"Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (85.255.116.154)"
ANDDD....
"Newtwork diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response."

Other computers work on the same Ethernet cord and Wireless...and my computer works on different networks like if i takle it home or something so i dont know what the problem is can someone help...i did the IPCONFIG/ALL thing in command prompt first without the ethernet plugged in and then with it as you can see below:

I'm gonna guess it's a non-Windows firewall or security suite. Do you have one? If so, which?

In the meantime try these repairs, 'cause I don't guess too good.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Try both ethernet and wireless in Safe Mode with Networking. Try a ping of the adapter's IP, the Default Gateway and the (first) DNS server.

In post #2 you pinged the DNS server:

Quote:
ping 85.255.116.154
In Safe Mode with Networking ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

PING 10.39.186.15 (or whatever your IPv4 address is now)

PING 10.39.186.1 (or whatever the Default Gateway is now)

PING 85.255.116.154 (or whatever the first DNS server address is now)

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

That means that the router/gatway does not know where the 85.x.x.x network is. And from what i can see, that 85 address is based in the Ukraine.

My guess is that since your machine works outside of the school, then the problem is with the school's router. I would suggest talking to them as it may be an internal issue.

(btw I get a timed out for that 85.x.x.x address too... Not good if it's a DNS server as it means its down)

The Ukraine DNS server address is MALWARE! That's a DNS redirection, you need to address that first!

so how do i fix this...all other computers work off the same ethernet cord in the same socket in the wall...the problem has to be in my computer...im on diff computer now....yet in that same port with the same ethernet cord and everything...im gonna do the ipconfig/all on this...and yeah that 85.xxx doesnt come up instead its a 128.xx number....so the problem has to be with my comp right..not my school cuz every other computer works in my room
