Angry Solved: networking issue - browser connection times out
Greetings:

I have a perculiar network connectivity issue. The connection had been working just fine and then my children did something and now it does not work correctly.

In generaly, most of the network connection actually works. The is a printer attached that it shares and we can print. I can remote desktop into it from another computer on the nextwork. It appears to have the same network settings as the other computers on the network.

It can ping, handle dns lookup, and tracert returns data for a connection.

What does not work is when I open up a web browser (no matter which browser I use) it will not fetch a page.

Suggestions?

Thanks
Dan

Non windows firewall or security suite blocking the browsers is one suspect.

Stack or WINSOCK problem is another. Try ...

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

You're welcome. Actually, your carefully described symptoms narrowed the causes to the two I listed or something strange and maybe impossible to find.
