#17 | Have you removed the Belkin router from the picture and connected a cable directly to the Speedstream 4200 modem? If not, please do this, and make sure you turn off power to the modem for 30 seconds or more to make the change of attached devices.
See if the direct modem connection works, I'd like to see the same ping tests as we did before.

#18 | Please do what John just posted. If that gives a successful connection then you'll need to go back to the Belkin. You access it by typing 192.168.2.1 into your browser's address bar. Even before logging in to it you see some status information, as shown in my attachment. Your display will be similar, but not exactly the same unless you have the same router. You can then, if needed, login and find more information. | | Junior Member with 13 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2009 Experience: Beginner |

#19 | I connected the modem to the router, turned them both off at the mains for 30-45secs switched them on and hey presto I have a connection to laptop via wireless! So that’s good BUT… … My problem now is that the PC I’m running the network through has no connection to the internet… what to do to get them both running? Here is the ipconfig /all for the PC with no connection and the second one is the laptop ipconfig /all with the internet connected… Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. #21 | On the non-working PC you have assigned an invalid (for the Belkin router connection) static IP configuration. If you want to assign a static IP later you will need to assign a valid one. For now use dynamic addressing and all should be well. See this Microsoft advice: To configure TCP/IP for dynamic addressing.
Post another ipconfig /all if you still cannot connect. | | Junior Member with 13 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2009 Experience: Beginner |
