Unhappy Solved: Can't browse with 1 pc on wireless network
I have a server that's hard wired to a Linksys WRT54GS router. I also have 3 wireless pcs and one wireless Xbox live on the network. One of the wireless pcs lost internet randomly and I haven't been able to figure out the problem.

It's a Vista pc (the server and other pcs that can connect are all XP)
I cannot browse in Firefox, IE 8 (with/without add-ons), or Opera in regular mode
I am able to ping the router and ping google successfully
I am able to browse in safe mode
I have updated the firmware on the router
I have updated the driver for the wireless adapter (Dell/Broadcom)
I have tried a static ip
I have tried both netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset
I have moved the wireless card to another slot
I have turned off firewalls on the Vista pc and the router

The only thing that I can come up with is that there were a few viruses on the pc (it's my son's) and he installed/unistalled many firewalls & virus scan programs. I'm worried that there may be traces of the firewalls or viruses left that could be the issue.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Exactly. As soon as I saw "able to browse in safe mode" I began scanning to see if you said anything about a non-Windows firewall.

Symantec (Norton) and McAfee each provide a nice Removal Tool for their respective products. Others you sometimes have to reinstall the latest version and then immediately uninstall it to clean up.

Post a HijackThis log. We can use it to look for firewall pieces, and there are people who can spot evidence of malware and advise whether a visit to the Malware Removal forum is appropriate.

I see a remnant of Comodo Internet Security.

I think the ProxyOverride is trouble--possible (probable?) malware.

I'm always suspicious of AOL stuff, but doubt it's causing this problem.

You really need to run HijackThis in normal mode--that's where the problem exists.

While I was in safe mode, I deleted the following with HJT -

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local
O3 - Toolbar: Searchme Toolbar - {4d02e7e6-5930-4b51-b9b0-9f21b3789400} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

I tried to remove these too but they came back -

O23 - Service: Avira AntiVir Scheduler (AntiVirSchedulerService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\sched.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Avira AntiVir Guard (AntiVirService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avguard.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: COMODO Internet Security Helper Service (cmdAgent) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cmdagent.exe

When I went back into regular mode, I went into services and disabled Avira and Comodo but I still couldn't browse. Then I disabled Kaspersky too and - Voila! I can browse now.

Now, how can I finish unistalling the traces of both COMODO and Avira? And what should I use instead of Kaspersky (I only have the trial version anyway)?

I don't know anything about Avira and Comodo, so all I can suggest is to install the latest version of each and then immediately uninstall it. There may be something on their web sites about removal or cleanup.

I cannot tell you what security to use, 'cause I don't know your risks and likes and dislikes.

For firewall I use Windows' (XP, Vista, 7). And mostly run behind a router so don't really need the software firewall. For anti-virus I pay for Norton Anti-Virus on one system and use Grisoft's AVG Free on the others. Once in a while scan with Lavasoft's Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy.

I'll do some research on my own about uninstalling them. And since I have a firewall on the router too, I think I'll use that and Windows firewall.

Thanks for the help
