Solved: Can't Turn Wireless Radio Signal On
Hi all,

I have a Lenovo R3000 N100 that has an odd problem. The laptop recognizes that the Broadcom wireless network card is there, but it won't pick up any networks. I've figured out that the wireless transmitter isn't powered on, but I can't get it to turn on!

I've tried using the lenovo wireless update utility with no luck. The Broadcom utility offers me the option to turn the power on, but to no avail. When I press Fn+F5 I also see the option to turn the power on to the transmitter, but it doesn't do anything. I made sure the wireless button is turned on in the front of the computer (which it is) and I also checked the BIOS incase something there was related to the wireless card, but there was nothing.

I also ran the Lenovo system update utility and downloaded updates for the computer, but that didn't help things either. I'm stuck and I can't figure out what's going on! The device manager says this is working properly, too. Have I overlooked anything?

Thanks!

Christian

Has this worked before? Or is this the first time you have attempted to get it going? it could be faulty, you have not said if you have reciently reloaded everything on and if it worked before.

Yeah, this has worked before. It was taken on vacation, and the person using it couldn't get it to work and "pressed a bunch of buttons" to try to get it to work and then it stopped working.

Would a system reload even do the job, or would the problem persist?

Ok i am guessing who ever had it, stuffed up the connection somehow, I suggest first to go to network connections and delete the connection if still in there and re-do it all. If the person who had it could not get a connection then it's an easy guess its not a virus unless picked up just before you handed it over. Try that and see how it goes you can not do anything bad by just deleting the connection you had and reinstalling it, (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE DISC FIRST THAT CAME WITH YOUR ACCOUNT)

Thanks for all the tips, guys.

After talking with someone who services Lenovos for a living, he suggested re-installing the OS. When I did that, the wireless card worked perfectly!
