Angry Connection issues w/ wireless network after several hours of research
I have a Dell Latitude D510 that had Windows XP Home for several years. The computer got entirely out of hand with viruses and what not so my IT guy at work set me up with the works! He upgraded to Windows Professional. By the time I recieved my comp back, i was moving to Florida. Now my wireless won't work and I don't have a way to contact him. I was told this can be a common problem with the upgraded software but won't go into that right now.

So, after being in Florida for 2 months without internet access, I re-installed Windows XP hoping it would work as it always had. I'm in a house with 4 roomates who don't have any issues connecting to a non-secured network (which belongs to our house of course). I've been working on this for the past few hours.

I've tried everything in Windows Help that has to do with Networking, internet, troubleshooting, wifi/wireless. I've gone through every thing there is to click on in Network Connections. I turned off my firewalls as well...and my network adaptor is running fine. Her network will not show anywhere. I do not have access to any of her info such as IP, but i've NEVER had problems connecting anywhere public or residential. PLEASE HELP!!! I'm so frustrated!

After installing XP Home or Pro install your chipset drivers first, then networking, then any other ones that Device Manager indicates you still need. Get them from your Dell Drivers/Resource CD or download the latest from Dell's web site (and use removable media to copy them over to the non-networked PC). Use your Service Tag for easier searching.
