IE can't connect to internet after upgrade to IE8
I’ve got IE8 internet connection problem. Can somebody help?
I loaded a fresh XP into Sony Vaio from the PC manufacturer restore disks, original IE6 worked just fine, as well as downloaded Firefox. After Microsoft updates and upgrade to IE8 the new explorer can not be opened at all, but Firefox forks just fine (PC directly connected to cable internet). Also Control PanelàInternet OptionsàGeneral TabàSearch Settings doesn’t have explorer among Search Providers (only Live Search, which is “Not Available”. The button “Find more search providers” is dead as well). Re-installation of XP did not help. Is this a known issue? Couldn’t find answer from Microsoft website.

Thanx in advance.

Hi there,
SO it seems after updating ie6 to ie8 ur not ablr to open the browser but the firefox works fine...ok
Lets try this
1.click start>run and type inetcpl.cpl
2.If u get a window then go to the tab>advanced and at the bottom click restore defaults and click apply
3.Go to programs tab and click reset web settings and click apply
4.now click start>run and type iexplore www.yahoo.com and see whether it works
5.If none of these works go to control panel>add remove programs>add remove windows components and uncheck IE which will uninstall it
6.restart ur computer once and go to same place and check IE and it will install it see whether u can use IE after re-installing.

Good Luck

Thanx, ranjithts, for your attempt to help me. Now I’m back in town and continue to fight the issue.

2.If u get a window then go to the tab>advanced and at the bottom click restore defaults and click apply --à I tried this before and just did it once again – the system hangs on the first task (“Reset user customization”) for hours and does not go any further.

3.Go to programs tab and click reset web settings and click apply --
à Sorry, I can not find reset button within the programs tab (“Internet Properties” – is this a wrong place?)

If you have any other ideas, please help. And thank you again for your kind response.
