Exclamation Internet connection failure -
I own an ASUS X58L series laptop on which runs a Windows Vista Home Basics system. I have had the laptop for a week now; it was given to me by a cousin.

The main problem is that although an internet connection to my BT Home Hub is established between the BT router, my ASUS and other laptops in my household, I have difficulty in accessing the internet. This problem does not exist to other laptop user in my house whom share the BT internet router connection.

The connection is wireless. It was connected to my laptop a week ago; I was able to browse the internet for two hours but afterwards the connection, although still visable and active between my laptop and the router, failed and a Windows error was displayed which read "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - this message is displayed after each attempt to access to web.

A suggested course of action is to run a windows network diagnostic. However, after doing so countless times, the same feedback is given:

" Cannot communicate with go.microsoft.com" Suggested action is to "Reset the network adapter 'Wirerless Network Connection'"

After resetting the connection I am told that "Windows tried a repair but a problem still exists"

So I perform the same process to be informed "Microsoft cannot resolve the problem"

My other attempts to solve the problem was to check the ASUS laptop's internet connection and make the exact selection to my brother's HP laptop (the one I'm using at the moment), despite having the exact settings, I still cannot access the net.

I also disabled Windows firewall but that had no effect on the internet connectivity. Kapersky Internet Security is installed, but cannot be activated as I cannot access the net, so I know that is not the cause of the problems.

I'm guessing that the cause may lie within the settings, however, do not know the ideal settings or much about computers to be honest.

Your help will be appreciated

The only way you can know that Kapersky Internet Security is not the problem is to uninstall it and hope that it goes away completely and cleanly. After you do that ...

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista and 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Hey, thank you for quick response

I reset WINSTOCK but was told that "the requested operation requires evaluation"
What does that mean? Does that mean the command was successfull?

Result for reset of IPv4:
C:\Users\netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Resetting Echo Request, failed.
The requested operation requires evaluation.
Resetting Global, failed.
The requested operation requires evaluation.
Resetting Interface, failed.
The requested operation requires evaluation.
There's no user speciified settings to be reset.

and the reults for reset of IPv6 is:

Resetting Echo Request, failed.
The requested operation requires evaluation.
There's no user specified settings to be reset.

I am really confused. What should I do now? I feel hopeless!

"the requested operation requires evaluation" means that you missed the line that says, 'Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.'

Can you connect using a wired connection to that machine?

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

True that a USB connection is wired; but how about an ethernet connection?

Should "193.169.1.245" (three places) really be 192.168.1.245? Or maybe 192.168.1.254? If so, you have an apparently good wireless connection to a router.
