No. You are in range. There is a setting somewhere that needs adjusting.
OR do you have any other wireless items in your room? I have a wireless TV box that blocks my wireless, even though they are on opposite channels. If I unplug the wireless TV box, my computer wireless works again.
OH! Microwave ovens can disrupt wireless. I know a factory that is shot to its knees when someone makes lunch.
Otherwise, off to IT with you. See if they can troubleshoot for you. I am sure others have had the same problem and they may have a quick answer. Wireless is the most frustrating contraption.

Would have been nice to know that earlier. I doubt any of us would have made the above suggestions knowing that.
With that info it seems like an antenna issue. Maybe the lead(s) is(are) loose.

Well I figured after taking it to IT, and to another computer tech station and still with no results that it must just be the computers internal wireless card. - I loose signal when I get to far away, (20 ft from the router) and I can't pick up internet where other computers can. I decided to buy an external Linksys N Ultra USB adapter and internet works like a dream. Just a bad wireless card in a refurbished computer i guess.
I can deal with a USB sticking out for the time being. Thanks for all the help.

Glad you got something that works now.
Did you check for loose antenna lead(s)? If might be a broken antenna or defective adapter, but looseness could also be the issue.

yes i checked for loose antennas, took both of them off and put both back on... no luck there. i just bought an intel wifi 5300 card to replace my 5100. i had an extra antenna so i figured I'd go with the 5300. if the new card doesn't fix anything then I guess the antennas are the issue. i'll report back when it comes in.
