Solved: Another wireless problem - connect only locally - but with a twist
Hi,

I have a weird situation and would appreciate any ideas about how to resolve this (without having to reinstall the entire system or something like that).

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with Vista 32-bit, and until a few days ago it had no problems connecting to my wireless network. Then, out of the blue, it wont connect anymore to the internet through the Netgear WGR614 router, though it recognises the network (that is, I am connected locally to the network , but not the internet).

As in other cases that I saw here -
- other computers can connect to the wireless as before (though another Dell Inspiron might also be having problems)
- my computer can connect to the network with a cable connected to the router

The weird part is that my computer can connect to at least one other wireless network (Linksys), so it's not that the wireless card is not working.

I tried all the usual rebootings and resettings (of computer, router and modem), as well as trying to type in again the wireless password. Nothing seems to be working.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Remove all the stored wireless profiles from the machine. Then remove encryption and MAC filtering from the router. See if you can connect that way.

Thanks!! I started off by removing some of the stored profiles (have accumulated 11 of those, now cut them down to 5), including the problematic one. After reinstalling this network (which was the last to be added) it seems to be working fine! I'm not sure if it's the reduction of the amount of wireless networks stored or the classic uninstall-reinstall shtick, but it's working now
