Solved: Stupid - don't tell me
I had seemingly lost my connection from my PC (wired connection to router), to my Laptop (wireless con) and ,being the bright spark that I am I decided to disable the enable the network adapter. So far so good - but when I tried to reconnect I found I needed A Username/password which I have long forgotten/taken no note of/nothing. How do I go about sorting out this mess I have landed myself in - and if replying, please remember you're talking to a 56yr old technophobe who needs STEP BY STEP, one syllable instructions - well nearly !! Does anyone have the time to help an idiotic old codger??
I'm inserting a picture of the window in questio in case I haven't explained myself well enough.
Hope one of these is right

The name/password it's looking for here would be the user name and password used to login to the on the other machine. I'm assuming this is a prompt when you try to connect to share files, right?
You really need to describe the whole environment to get the best assistance.

I'm sorry but I really can't think of any different info that would help. I right clicked the network adapter and disabled it. I then opened the NETWORK window, picture follows --

The next window I get,as explained before is as picture --

You are probably correct in your assumption the the computer(PC) "ALAN-PC" is trying to connect to the laptop "USER-PC" for which it needs a Username and Password. Sadly, these are what I cannot remember or figure out what they might be. Like I said ,I'm no whizz, I just need some friendly help!

Well, my guess was correct, now we need some information.
What's the version and patch level of Windows on each machine. Also, are these the "home" versions or pro/business editions of Windows. Be specific.

Sorted
HI to all who at least made the effort to help, but , by some miracle i've managed to start sharing the files I needed to get access to. I may have done it in a less than ideal way but I doubt it will cause me any grief. As the only people with access to both the PC and Laptop are myself and my wife and my Home network is secure, I simply turned off "PASSWORD PROTECTED SHARING" - et voila - job (nearly ) done. All I've had to do is highlight any files I need to share and then click "SHARE". So there we are, possibly a roundabout method but it will do for now . THANKS AGAIN TO ALL !!
