Wireless connection suddenly not working on HP laptop
Hello,

I've connected to the internet using an Airport Extreme, on my HP laptop (one year old), running Vista. It has worked fine for a year, and wireless connection is working on all other computers in the house, but suddenly will not work on the HP laptop anymore.

It sees the available networks, but goes into an indefinite state of "aquiring network address," but never connects. When I plug in ethernet cable, it works.

Can you help? I have no idea why it would suddenly stop working! I tried to "repair" the connection, and it said it "could not refresh IP address."

Please help! I'm clueless.

may be a virus, or malware
But first
are other PC working on the wireless all ok
post make and model of router/modem

you may want to try to do a system restore to when the pc was working

post a ipconfig /all

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

System restore was turned off, must be a default setting. I turned it on, but I can't restore before now.

My system doesn't let me turn off the firewall (policy), but that's never been an issue before so not sure why it would now.

Since you cannot do a system restore, Reboot computer, while it is booting, gentily continously tap the F8 key. This will bring up the safe mode window. Use the arrow keys to move up to "last known good configuration" click on enter.
Let computer do its thing.

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from your PC manufacturer's web site.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

This Problem could be related to the HP Wireless Assistant ot the Bios.

Did you install one of these components?
Whats your Notebook Modell?
Whats your Firmware Version?
Did you install the latest HP-Drivers?
Do you use a Dockingstation, if yes which modell?
Did you install SP2 allready?
