Unhappy Routers won't work with new ATT DSL
I just recently moved and had to give up my Comcast cable 20 MBPS connection for this ATT 2 MBPS connection . To make matter worse I've tried hooking up two different routers and neither will work with this connection. Both worked fine at the other house and I've never had trouble hooking up a router before. I've read opther places that I may need to setup a pppoe connection, but I tried entering the username@att.net and the password, for a pppoe connection and it still didn't work.
I tried with a WRT54G2 router and a WRT54G running DD-WRT. I also tried connecting from two different wireless adapters, neither would work.

I sure wouldn't want to give up my 20mbit FiOS line, I feel your pain!

Can you share the EXACT make/model of the DSL modem? I'm guessing it's really a modem/router and you have a base address conflict, but without the information, that's just a guess.

Connected directly to the modem, I'd like to see this as well.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

alright I got it taken care of, I channged the ppp location, then released my IP address. Then I hooked the router back up and re-entered my pppoe information. Then I was good to go!.

I have a PPPoe connection setup on my WRT54G2 (which has regular Linksys Firmware) It has been running fine, but the range isn't great as the antennas are internal, plus I have a WRT54G-TM w/ 7dni antennas here. I decided to attempt to hook it up, but for some reason I couldn't get the PPPoe connection working. I entered the username and password like I did on the other router but it wouldn't work. I did notice however that when this one (the WRT54G2) connects an internet gateway icon pops up in my Network connections. It didn't do that with the WRT54G-TM. Do I need to redo something when changing the router?

Well, you should certainly power down the modem when making the change of connected equipment. I'd also reset the new router to factory defaults and then reconfigure the WAN interface and see if it connects.

If the other one connects, I can't imagine why that one won't with the same settings, unless it's broken.
