I have merged the post together

can you do a print screen and post a picture of device manager netwrok adapters

Do you have any ? ! or X showing

it maybe that the wireless adapter has gone faulty - however, did this problem occur directly following a re-install of windows , and it was working with wireless upto that point
correct?

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...riesId=1815896

just need to select windows version

HP also have a swich for wireless to turn on/off - sometime at the back of keyboard / or front of machine

If the wireless adapter doesn't appear either under Network adapters or Other Devices as an unknown device, you have a hardware issue with the adapter.

thanks again john.

Everything was working internet everything without the cable plugged in but since i have for matted it the wireless network adapter in NOT in any other devices, or in the network adapter section in the device manager.

as it was working before could i go into the actual laptop and unplug the adapter and see if window would re pick it up when i put laptop back on. if so what does it look like fror my model dv4302ea hp pavillion. anything is worth a try. I know BEFORE i formatted it evrything worked on it i only formatted it because it had alot of the last persons software etc on.
or do i have to go buy another wireless adapter and get it installed at the shop. many thanks from your help from trace x

its possible the wireless is a card in the bottom of the laptop - I need to see if HP have a manual that shows that

Otherwise you can get USB wireless adapters quite cheaply
heres a list from amazon (no recommendation - just examples for you)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?...s=wireless+usb

but lots of other places sell them...not sure which country you are in...

i have found the service manual
here
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00530488.pdf

the wireless card looks like its quite deep in the machine - if i have read correctly
page 5-19
probably easier to buy a USB adapter

thankyou again

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Int...7183880&sr=8-1

I prefer adapters with external antenna provisions, the tiny antenna in most USB wireless adapters results in very limited range.

have a look and see if you can create a recovery CD/DVD from a program on the machine
it may be under programs HP - recovery manager
although if you formated it - this may all have gone now

you need to download all the drivers from the HP website as posted
and save those on a CD
Then when you format - install all the drivers
Once that is done you can then go and get windows updates and any driver updates from Hp
also keep a backup of all your data
