i am desperate please please can anyone help.
i have just received an laptop 2nd hand and thought it would format like a normal computer. anyway i formatted it and the internet does not work now. please help.
I have a hp pavillion dv4000 laptop and the internet works fine with the cable in from modem but when unplugged it keeps saying that i havent a wireless network adapter. it all worked before i formatted. I formatted because of all the software etc from previous owner. now my internet does not work. How do i get it to work again. what do i need? where do i get drivers or whatver i need from? also in other devices its says in yellow.
network controller
pci modem
video controller
video controller vga these are all in yellow too.
please can anyone help me on getting my laptop working again like it did before. need websites for drivers any help at all pleease help anyone

i downloaded and did the belard link as said to do. and have got a 5 page print out of items on my computer.
so here is what it says that are not detected:
operating system is: windows xp
system model: hp pavillion dv4000 (ek928ea abu) notebook
network drives: NOT detected.
network adapter: not detected
bus adapter: not detected.
other devices:
multimedia audio controller
network controller
pci modem
video controller
video controller vga conpatable all not detected.
many thanks to all that have been kind to help. really appreciate your time. so if anyone can get my laptop up and running again prpoerly with internet i promise never to format it again lol!

HP can tell you what was originally installed on this computer and you can get your drivers from there.

#10 | thankyou for your help.done all above the exact model is dv4302ea model hp pavillion. i have downloaded a few of the items on hp.com. and all the yellow question marks have gone many thanks for that.
the one that is not working now ONLY is the wireless NETWORK ADAPTER. so i just need that now. where would i get this from please anyone. again hp pavillion dv4302ea model
i cant get on internet without the cable plugged in as says WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER not connected.

#11 | We need to know EXACTLY the description of the wireless adapter from Device Manager.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc
Please respond to all the following steps. - Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
- Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
- Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

done as you have said.
1. Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet nic. Is the only item in the NETWORK ADAPTER SECTION.
2- 3. been threw every item in device manager and now after downloading items from hp.com there is NO yellow ? or anything now.

#14 | no. sorry everything working except the internet. on laptop. like i said on previous message it says it cant connect to the wireless network adapter. looked in network section and there isnt a wireless network adapter in there. So how do i get a wireless network adapter?

#15 | Need WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER please Hi firstly thankyou to all the people that have helped me so far on here. its a great site and friendly and helpful people.
anyway i have put a post below on help needed. everything on my laptop has now had drivers put on but the ONLY thing that i need now is a WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER. I know i had one before i formatted it because my laptop worked with internet without cable. but now its gone.
All i have in my network adapter section in device manager is the:
realtek family rtl8139 family ethenet nic but NO wireless network adapter.
it says one not found so How do i re install wireless network adapter is there a driver or anything for it. i have a dv4ooo hp pavillion dv4302ea model. IF you look at my post previous on help needed please all my laptop details are on there.
it is driving me mad now lol so please can anyone help me on getting my laptop back on the internet WITHOUT the cable please please lol
