Solved: Yet another wireless internet problem.
I have a Netgear wireless router that works fine. It's only about 6 months old, if that. I've never had problem with it before (I can't call tech support because my 90 days are up). Internet was working fine on my Macbook, I helped my cousin with her computer since she's living with me now (windows) to run off the modem also so she could have internet. She is using a Linksys USB to pick up internet from the Netgear modem. Once she was able to get Internet, my Macbook wasn't able to pick it up anymore. The airport shows full bars, but when I try to go online, nothing happens. I've tried restarting everything. Any ideas?

it maybe an ip conflict, have you set DHCP up on the router and the PCs - I do not know the Macs at all

post an ipconfig /all from the windows machine

{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here

TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

Lets just revisit the problem statement

can you post -
HOW its connected - you talk of router and then talk of modem

the modem should only be connected to the WAN / Internet input on the router - and then the PC/Mac should work 1) cabled to the router LAN connections or wireless

first - how is it connected up

next
Both machine work fine on other wireless networks - if you connect to an unsecure network in your complex

can you confirm both

I have my cable modem hooked up to the cable in the wall. From the cable modem I have the wire runing from the modem to the back of the router.
Both machines do work fine on unsecure networks.
Im not sure if this helps, but the lights that are lit up on the modem are as follows. Power, Receive, Send, and Online are a steady green (like always) and PC/Activity is flashing orange (randomly) as if it's sending receiving info. It's going in sync with the light on the router that the modem is plugged into.
As for the lights on the modem... Power is a steady green. A (what looks to be an intenna) is blinking. Seems to blink on for 1 second, off for 1 second, on for 1, off for 1..ect..(but sometimes changes).
Then the number 2 is blinking in sync with the PC/Activity on the router.

I think that sounds all OK - without looking up the manual for all the lights

now how are the PC/MAc connected to router?
Is the wireless on the Router secure/encrypted ?

The Mac is connected through Airport, and the PC is using a Linksys USB adapter (Not sure the name of it).
The wireless router is secure, I set it up a while ago with a name/password.

oK so both connected wirelessly and only one works at a time, or has that now changed completely to no machines work
If no machines - log into the router and take the secruity off - also make sure the router is set up for DHCP

If she can get the PC to work
With just the PC connected on its own - can you post and ipconfig /all

Now the wireless won't work for her PC. Once it started working for the PC it stopped working for the MAC. Even with the PC off, still no luck for the Mac. I figured it would still work now that her PC isn't, but it's not.
I logged into the router @ 192.168.1.1/start.htm I looked under the security tabs, but I don't see anything for making it unsecured.

EDIT: I just noticed, after entering in the address it brings me to a linksys set-up page, but my router is a Netgear.
I think I might have just logged into the Apartment complexes router.

netgear router - if you could post model

There should be a wireless section
in there you should see
secruity/encryption - disabled/enabled - also settings for WEP / WPA

thats where we need to turn off secruity

The model is WGR614 v7.
Do I have to be using the internet from the router to log into it?

NO - ideally have a cable connection between the pc/mac and the router
nothing else needs to be connected

I have aversion 6 manual - may not be different to 7 - but need to look for that version

to login
in a web browser - safria I guess on MAC
http://www.routerlogin.net
When prompted, enter admin for the router user name and password for the router password,

that should take you into the router setup menus

then on the lefthand side you have wireless settings
in that section
you have
secruity options
with a choice of 3 options
Disable
wep
wpa

i'll look for the V7 manual- just in case the interface is differetnt

i'm just downloading the V7 manual - but have the version 9 and has same instructions

assuming its all default

try typing this
http://192.168.1.1

Quote:
from the V9 manual

Tip: You can connect to the wireless router by typing either of these URLs in the
address field of your browser, and then pressing Enter:
http://www.routerlogin.net
http://www.routerlogin.com
If these URLs do not work, you must type the IP address of the router, for
example, http://www.192.168.1.1.

I tried that earlier, but every time I do it sends me to a Linksys setup.
