no internet connection
Hi, my daughter is having problems connecting to the internet, she's at university so the info im getting is 2nd hand, apologies for that. She has an Acer Aspire laptop (5315) operating XP home, recently I bought here a O2 dongle which worked ok for about 2 weeks, since then she has had no internet connection at all, she has uninstalled & re-installed the dongle software & done a system restore but to no avail.
I am assured that the area she is in has got good coverage (hot spot).
I would appreciate any ideas, Dave

Does she detect any wireless networks? Does she detect the one to which she wants to connect? If so, what exactly happens when she tries to connect to it?

Good idea to check on any firewall or other security application. Especially if its data definitions have not been kept up to date.

Also have her try ...

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

You just follow those instructions exactly, it's pretty specific.
