Problem with DNS Configuration
The error report by Windows Network Diagnostics:
''There may be a problem with your Domain Name Server (DNS) configuration''

I have read some of the post here about this problem with Windows Vista, but I noticed that most of them seem to be laptop. My problem is with my Windows Vista Home Premium Desktop Computer, so that lead me to make the post. Anyways the problem is with the wired internet connection from the computer to the router it seems from reading other post. The other computer in the household that is connected to the router which has Windows XP installed has more consistent wired connection to the internet than my Windows Vista Desktop Computer. In other words, when I am watching from my computer a video or playing a game online the connection will usually drop and after a couple of minutes come back online. My temporary fix solutions are: Wait for the connection to come back online, restart the computer, and turn-off and on the modem. I am able to access the router setup page, unfortunately my computer skills are limited so I do not know where to put certain information and numbers unless specified. Here is my computer/ Router Information:
My Desktop Computer:
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Operating System Service Pack 2
Motherboard AMD GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX
Router:
LINKSYS Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GL

Please help me find a solution to this problem.

Wired or wireless connection?

Some things you can try here, listed in the order you should try them.
  1. For wireless connections, remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for networks. You'll have to enter the encryption key again, which is sometimes the issue for connection problems.
  2. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  3. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  4. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
  5. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  6. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

I updated the first post, the connection is wired on both PC and the wireless connection has been disabled on the router by me. How do I update the network driver? And about the firmware when I install Linksys on my computer it does not install any files or anything, so i click on upgrade firmware from the setup page it ask me which file to update, but the problem is I do not have any files installed.

Can I get some help please? I know you all are busy, but I really miss gaming online without being kicked every 10 minutes or so because of this issue.

To upgrade the firmware. Download the update file from the linksys website. Then when it asks you for a file on the manufacturer website, select the file that you just downloaded.

I still have the same problem even after I updated the firmware I downloaded from the router's website. I believe it's windows Vista causing the problem because I still get the message on Windows Network Diagnostics:
"There may be a problem with your domain server name (DSN)"
I read in another post about opening ports on the router. I was wondering if maybe this is what I need to fix the issue. Please, help me fix this problem I do not want to have to buy Windows XP or Windows 7 to fix this issue.
