Thats a problem ....

first
if you connect the PC tothe modem - can you get access tothe internet OK ?

The modem should be connected to the port labeled - internet on the back of the router
and the PC connected to one of the four other LAN ports

Does the PC connect up to the intenet

Next we need to check the wireless
log into the router and goto the wireless section
Make sure wireless is on, if on the WLAN should be on
then remove any wireless secruity/encryption

also download and install
http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

run the program and do a screen print - and post back here

Connected by cable to the router post an ipconfig /all here
{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here

TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

quite a few thing there - lets sperate them
1) Can you do the ipconfig and post back results
2) To log into the router - chapter 6 of the online manual tells you how to login
Quote:
To access the web-based utility, launch Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, and enter the Router’s default IP
address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field. Then press Enter.
A password request page, shown in Figure 6-1 will appear. (non-Windows XP users will see a similar screen.)
Leave the User Name field blank. The first time you open the Web-Based Utility, use the default password admin.
(You can set a new password from the Administration tab’s Management screen.) Then click the OK button.
That should open the router utility
You can check the settings there - post back the settings in the first page

3) Unable to install program - are you set up as an admin on the PC - is this your machine or a work machine
You need MS net framework - which is usually instaled with the updates
see here
The Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed.
There are various versions
Goto windows update and see what is recommened

Version 2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Version 3
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Service pack 3.5

If that is when you connected to the router, you have your modem connected to the wrong port on the router. Connect the modem to the WAN/Internet port and this will work better.

If that IPCONFIG was from a connection on the router, something is very wrong.

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

  • Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
  • Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
  • Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
  • Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
  • Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
  • Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
  • Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
