Wireless disconnect issues
Hello,

I have a similar issue with my HP laptop dv9260us (Vista Ultimate 64-bit), I have had it for over a year and half and recently it started to lose wireless connection and it seems to be happening more and more frequently. There is no telling when it would happen, but every time it happens the little wireless indicator light will turn orange from blue (blue means it's working) and nothing I tried (repair, turning off/on the wireless switch) would help except that I had to restart the machine then it would work again. I also updated the wireless adapter driver but the problem still happens. The signal strength always says excellent. Any idea what else I can try? Thank you.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Sure no problem, sorry about that.

My HP laptop model is Pavilion dv9260us, with Vista Ultimate 64-bit, it has build-in wireless G adapter. We have had it for a year and half and from day one we used the laptop via wireless connection and the issue just started to happen recently. I have an Airlink 108mb G router upstairs, and I have RoadRunner 10mb cable connected to the router (cable modem then router actually). I have 2 other PCs connected (wired) to the router. The laptop is the only thing that's connected wirelessly.

If it matters, I recently upgraded from 1.5mb DSL to 10mb RoadRunner cable, and at the same time upgraded from an old D-Link 54mb G router to the Airlink. But I recall the issue was happening before the upgrade, just not as often as now.

I also tried taking the laptop upstairs closer to the router or to the farthest point from the router in my back yard but the issue still happens, the signal strength all says very good.

Last night I was downloading a big file on the laptop and it happened 3 times while downloading. Afterward I left it running overnight, with the web browser open but not downloading anything and this morning it's still connected. Is it possible that may be the wireless adapter can't handle the faster speed?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hard to say what is going on. Did you try the latest drivers for your wireless adapter?

Yes it says my driver is the latest. I tried it again last night and it happened a couple times while I was watching a movie on the laptop. It does seem to happen less if I was just surfing the web (not downloading any large file). I'm going to get one of those USB wireless adapters and see if it works any better. Thank you.
