Question Have CrossOver Cable --- Can't Get It To Work --- Please Help Me --- Thank You!
I have a CrossOver Cable and I am trying to get it working on my computers. I have computer 1's (Acer TravelMate 2420 [laptop]) ip address set to 169.254.xx.xx (I don't think I'm supposed to give out my ip address) and computer 2's (acer aspire r1600 [nettop]) ip address set to 169.254.xx.xx
both of the ip address for the computers end differently.

I have no internet on the nettop (acer aspire r1600) I just would like to transfer files from my crossover cable. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Configure the machines as follows.

PC #1:
IP address: 192.168.9.1
Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0

PC #2:
IP address: 192.168.9.2
Subnet Address: 255.255.255.0

Leave the Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses blank.

Make sure any firewalls are configured to put the 192.168.9.x subnet in the trusted zone.

Finally, you'll have to enable fine/print sharing on the machines and actually share one or more folders or drives.

Here's a page that describes the process in detail: http://www.howtodothings.com/compute...2-pcs-directly
