Cisco VPN Client 435 Firewall Policy Mismatch
I just installed Window 7 on my Lenovo T400 Laptop. I need to get VPN up and running in order to connect to work.

I installed the Cisco VPN Client 5.0.04.0300, but can't seem to get it to connect. I am getting a 435 Firewall Policy Mismatch error.

I've already scoured the internet and tried all the suggestions, including the one in the link below on this site to install ZoneAlarm and copy over some files. But nothing seems to work.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp...-firewall.html

The one difference was that when I installed ZoneAlarm there was not a file by the name of vsutil_loc040.dll. I searched the internet and couldn't find it anywhere. I found all the other dlls mentioned in the post?? Could this one file be my issue?

Others at work have gotten their VPN clients to work on Windows 7. The only difference I can see is the computer. They have Dells. One other person that I know who has a Lenovo also can't get it to work. Can the hardware itself really be the issue? Unfortunately I can't change much in the BIOS or upgrade it (I think) because our wonderful IT department has locked down many of the settings with a special admin password. My BIOS password only has limited capabilities. It's infuriating!

Any help would be appreciated. I'd really like to get this up and going so I can ditch my old SLOW laptop. And I really don't want to have to go back to Windows XP (which I'm told is what I'll have to do on this particular Lenovo device - again by IT who wants to put a crappy corp load on it that I'm not very keen on).

Thanks in advance for any help.

I just checked the available downloads for the Cisco VPN client. Your version doesn't have explicit support for Windows 7. Version 5.0.06.0110 does have stated Windows 7 support. It looks like you'll have to upgrade to the latest version.

Just confirmed it. The release notes for version 5.0.06.0110 states you have to get this version for Windows 7 support for 32 bit only. They don't have support for 64 bit yet.

Others in my company are using the version I specified with Windows7, but I'll try the new version.

5.0.06.0110 is the correct version, what else did you install in trying to get the other version to work? I'd suggest getting any other Cisco installs and any other firewall and other software off the machine and just trying the 5.0.06.0110 version and see, do you get an error on install? or just when you try to connect to your vpn? if it's the vpn make sure your settings are correct as well.

The only thing I installed was the ZoneAlarm - following the directions in the previous post. I uninstalled everything from Cisco and ZoneAlarm and cleaned up all the vs dlls before I tried the new 5.0.06 version. And my Windows firewall settings are all disabled.

I get the error when I try to connect to the VPN. The install goes off without a hitch. That is true for the 5.0.04 version as well.

ZoneAlarm can certainly be the cause of the problem. There have been problems with ZA and Cisco VPN before.

OK. I totally reinstalled my laptop. Started from scratch and did the following:

Installed Windows 7
Installed SecureW2 (for my work wireless)
Installed Mozilla Firefox
Installed RarZilla
Installed AuthenTech (biometric driver)
Installed Cisco VPN Client 5.0.06.0110

Still getting the same error - Firewall Policy Mismatch

Turned off Windows firewall completely.

There's gotta be something I'm missing here. I still can't believe this would be a hardware issue, but has anyone heard of something like that. With the Lenovo T400 Laptops?

Have you contacted your company's IT department? Windows 7 just came out a few weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't tested the Cisco VPN client with it yet. Perhaps you need an update or maybe it just isn't compatible.
