Occasionally disconnecting from internet
Ok, I am not having a MAJOR problem here but when it happens, it is pretty annoying. I own two computers (a Vista laptop and XP desktop) which are both connected wirelessly to the internet through a BT Home Hub.

Occasionally both of my PC's will disconnect from the internet however looking at the internet status on either PC says I am connected fine, however loading a web page will bring up a "Your Connection was Reset" error page. I can go for days, even weeks without this happening then all of a sudden I will get it a few times in one day. Even if I go to the configuration page on the router and use the "Check Connectivity" option, it shows no errors (Strange). The only way I have found to fix this problem is to unplug the router and then plug it back in and everything is ok again. I do NOT have a problem whatsoever however if the PC's are plugged in through an Ethernet cable, and my Playstation 3 which is also connected wirelessly doesn't seem to suffer the same problem (Very strange).

I am at a complete loss on how I can stop this from happening so does anybody know any configuration settings on the BT Home Hub or PC settings which I could adjust to stop this from happening.

I have tried playing with the channel settings and have found that "Automatic" works best for me as setting a specific channel seems to get my laptop to disconnect all the time (but not my desktop).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I'm going to go with a hunch here and say that most likely it's your actual router having issues. I use Suddenlink cable internet and for a long time our connection was resetting without cause, I had to reflash the firmware on the router to fix the problem. I'm guessing the router is having a hiccup and just reestablishing a clean connection for you after you reset the power. One preventative measure might be to reset your router manually at a convienant time, say one a week before you go to bed on a certain day.

I have almost the exact same issues as you. I run a tower unit with XP and a laptop with Vista. I keep getting disconnected at random and sporadic times. I could go weeks with no issues, than all of a sudden problems after problems. I've reloaded windows on my XP to no avail and the problem still persists, ruling out any virus or PC problems. I have two modems as well as a wirless router and this rules out faulty hardware. I've complained to my ISP numerous times but I'm fairly convinced it's not their problem (not 100% sure) I've had BT engineers out to my house 4 times and they can't locate a problem although they said there was static noise on the line. I hard-wire my PC's and don't use WiFi but the router ADSL light shows no connection 80% of the time, regardless if a PC is plugged into it or not.

It's seriously doing my head in and that engineer is going to be booked again soon for the 5th time to sort this crap out.I was told I would face a £125 bill if the fault was located in my house, but it wasn't. So it's BT's error somewhere along the line they have to sort out, I've come to realise.

I would like to add that the issues I'm getting started when I introduced my new laptop with Vista to the internet, before that it was fine on the modems with XP but I needed a new router to run Vista and that's when problems started.

From this I would guess that you are experiencing wireless interference, probably from other wireless networks. What channels did you try? Does the laptop have the constant disconnect problem when near the desktop on all the channels (at least 1, 6 and 11 if in North America)?
