I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, I've even tried forwarding for another application and it won't work. Tried changing to various different ports;
5800 (default VNC port - for viewing in a web browser)
5900 (default VNC port)
8000
9000
None of the above work... So I decided to fire up Azuerus (Torrent software) because its got a NAT tester, but even this didn't work so I can only conclude that the home hub just can't do port forwarding, then I found out it was made by Speedtouch and my previous speedtouch router didn't do port forwarding either (in fact it crashed when you applied port forward settings!)
So I thought I'd check that my router is using the latest firmware and if not, update to the latest...
I check my version and it says version 4.7.5.1.83 (Type B)
So I check google for latest and the latest is 6.2.2.6
What the hell? I only got this router less than 2 months ago!!! So I attempt to start the upgrade thinking login to the router over HTTP and click a button update firmware... No such button exists, turns out its an over complex procedure that requires a whole host of software to be installed on a machine inside the LAN and routing through the BT website there are loads of broken links so you can't even work out how to do it!
All in all, avoid:
- BT broadband
- Speedtouch routers
My solution: Put home hub on eBay; buy a netgear
