I have now managed to resolve Windows Security Centre issue, Mcafee is 100% gone off this machine.

However, problem is still there - any other ideas, please?

Have now reinstalled AVG9 for security and updated it fine (8.4Mb in 19secs) - so it's definitely only failing on HTTP, HTTPS & FTP.

Have also setup up dual boot with another WinXP and everything works in it, so not hardware as the cause of the problem.

My customer would prefer the problem fixed as opposed to using the 2nd Windows as he has a few things that can't be copied to the new WinXP.
