Unhappy Need help please! Problem loading websites, but internet ok?
This problem has beaten me, any help would be much appreciated.

I cannot view websites on IE8, Firefox or AOL9VR. IE Diagnostics give errors; Winsocks "Not all base service provider entries could be found in the winsock catalog. A reset is needed."
HTTP "Could not make an HTTP connection", "HTTP Error 12029 connecting to www.microsoft.com. A connection with the server could not be established"
Same error 12029 for HTTPS & FTP.

I CAN ping www.google.co.uk & download updates for AVG ok so the internet is there.

Things I've done:
  • Removed AVG
  • Reset Winsocks (netsh winsock reset)
  • Reset Windows Firewall & disabled
  • Windows Repair
  • Reset IE
  • Spyware scan (combofix, mbam, etc.) - clean
  • Checked lmhosts file
It is like a firewall issue and one other thing that concerns me is that I removed Mcaffee AV/firewall using Mcaffee Product Removal Tool, but Windows Security Centre still reports Mcaffee Personal Firewall is ON - there are Mcaffee no files on the PC but 3 Mcaffee services are still there, albeit won't start because no files there.

I also fixed another issue on this PC; System Restore, Windows Search & AOLNotify wouldn't load, but I fixed these by re-registering a few DLLs - could it be I need to re-register another DLL?

Cheers

Removal tool (Appremover) did not find any security software installed on the computer (will put protection on when problem solved).

Thanks but no joy, any other ideas?

make and models of router/modem and how connected

{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here

TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Ping Tests}
Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Ping google.com
Post back the results

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Ping 209.191.93.53
post back results

Nothing to do with router (Dlink DKT-810), this PC is in my shop for repair, my customer has the problem at his home and I see the same problem here. Also 5 other PCs work fine on the same router in the shop.

We seem to be straying away from my first post. I think it is either an unregistered DLL/file or service problem or something to do with Security Centre still saying Mcaffee is installed.

Thanks.
