No Wireless Options
Hi, I'm new here, and do not consider myself an idiot, but here's the problem: I'm trying to install a d-link wda-2320 wireless wifi adapter on my home pc, XP sp3. This is a PCI adapter and I have a public access locally available. I install latest driver from internet, but device manager don't get it! Dev mgr shows it as an Ethernet adapter that needs a driver. So I tried to install from the dev mgr, the installer says the file I downloaded "doesn't contain information for your hardware."

Another thing is that's there is no wireless networking options available anywhere. I'm at wits end, can anybody help me. I need this to work, I've been losing money on the internet wasting time on this for 2 days!

Okay! First THANKS for the fast response! Now, yes that is the device, cheap, but reviews say VERY good, with good ant., I have the driver from the index ver 1.20. Installed the driver , then card on reboot, the hw wizard found it, tried to indicate proper driver, it gives no info for the hardware error. It show in device manager as ethernet controller with question mark.

Once again, thanks a lot!

did you buy the d-link wda-2320 or did it come with the DELL
if it was part of the DELL
than use the TAG number to find the driver on the DELL site

Cheap modem off e-bay. Tried installing .inf's from update driver in dev mgr-> props, with the updater giving me the same message, 1 thing occurs to me though, when I install and hardware wizard asks for device type i USUALLY select network adapter, i have tried infared devices 2x, but cannot find wireless devices anywhere in the list. Can this be a part of this?

This is the message you are getting using that d-link wda-2320 driver i linked to ?
did you also run the .exe from the driver download set

At least windows is detecting new hardware

any possibility the device is NOT a d-link wda-2320

Dell Tag number will not help as its not part of the orginal Dell Kit

also see if wireless zero configuration is running
details of how to check here

Wireless service is running, I've reset it and used manual start and stop. I had an inspiration this morning, I looked up the vendor and device numbers listed in the device manager and THAT comes up with Castlenet Technologies inc. for the vendor, but the device id gives a lot of mfrs, none of which are d-link. Funny though, it LOOKS like the one in the picture. So I pulled the card and gonna do a little research on the internet on some of the numbers on the board. BTW, the castlenet web site does make wireless stuff, but I didn't find any PCI wifi stuff.

I suspect the device is another manufacturer - hence the error you are getting
good luck with the search

chipset may be worth looking at - as this maybe a common amongst a lot of modules

What I have found leads me to another driver for an airlink adapter, tried that no luck with the same results. I took the card out and here's what I found:
FCC ID: RRK2004050123-1, 1 tag says:1WPCG07...A2, PRINT ON BOARD: 8WPCG06...4A1G, d-LINK P/N: CDWA2320 A2, HW VER A2, FW VER 1.03 IC 4216A-WLPCIA. Some of this indicates one thing some another, <edited by MOD> this thing, no more than I spent, is really <edited by MOD> me off. Something has got to work. I'm gonna look at the dev & vendor codes for an answer!

I'll try that, the driver guide suggested one from the DWLG510 and it didn't work. Maybe this one...I did find your page mentioned, and tried the atheros driver. Eventually something HAS to work!
