Solved: Laptop can no longer connect to network
Yesterday Comcast was down and none of the pc's in our house had internet. I did not know this at the time, so when I was on my brother's toshiba laptop(running vista), the network connection was suddenly lost. As a standard procedure, I disabled and re-enabled the connection, hoping it would be fixed. Then later I discovered it was our ISP's fault.

The next day, the network connection was back up, except the laptop I was using last night couldn't connect. When i I go to "Connect to a network" It says it successfully connected, but I still cannot browse the web. The taskbar icon shows a computer with an X, meaning it's NOT connected. I've tried restarting the laptop, resetting the router, re-entering the network key, and nothing's working.

Thank you in advance.

Tried just setting up a new connection? In otherwords configuring a new connectiong to the router. It can be a cache problem. And remaking it could solve the issue.

I setup a new connection under the same settings, and still no connection.
The only thing I don't understand is why it is saying it successfully connected when it isn't... Even after connecting it says "Connected".

Side question: Is it normal for the network security key to be changed to show eight asterisks? Because the key is actually much longer than that.

Then I'm not sure I've got the knowledge to help you. Sorry. But to answer your second question. Yes, It's just a precation to prevent any 3rd party software to log the key.

Solved. To my suprise, my brother somehow fixed it. (he's very computer illiterate)
It had to do with the network bridge. I think it might have been disabled.

Thanks for trying to help though.
