This has been a week-long crusade of frustration.

The problem is as the title states... Anything on my computer that uses P2P connections shoots to 99%

I can't talk to my girlfriend with video call.

I can't play my games with my friends.

Within a few seconds of video call, msnmsgr.exe goes to 99% cpu usage.

Likewise, with a few minutes of play with friends. The game goes to 99 cpu and locks up my computer. The game performs perfectly fine as long as I'm not connected to other people, It doesnt crash even if left on for hours.

So it would appear to me that something about P2P is totally trashed on my computer.

I have no idea what could be causing this. I don't know where to start. It's driving me crazy, please help..

Edit: It's also worth noting that both Spybot S&D and SUPER Anti-Spyware return completely clean results when run in safemode.

Thank you for giving this a look. I'd just like to be able to play with friends. And I'm in a long distance relationship, and any strain on my ability to talk to my girlfriend is a strain directly on the relationship :/.

Small update: I ran an avast boot scan this morning and it found some things that the other 2 scans didn't, but the problem remains..

No doubt the "P2P" in your title has cautioned some folks to stay away. I should probably give you a warning and close this, but somethin's telling me to give you some slack.

If you are having this problem while also running P2P programs, which is sure what it sounds like, then stop running P2P. Or just say you're sorry and I'll close this w/o a warning.

If your situation is not as I have interpreted it, please explain further. What video call application? Example game or two?

I think you are interpreting it right TN> the poster does not seem to understand exactly what P2P consists of it seems to me. Video conference or chat isn't P2P, though there are some things that use a P2P interface (that may not be the correct word but you get the drift) that would not be considered file sharing of the type we do not allow in forums....

What we like to do is look at an Hijackthis log which will show us a lot about the running programs etc

If I could suggest having them provide an HJT log I would be happy to check it.

I would also like to see the Uninstall Manager log from HJT

How to use the Uninstall Manager

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

If you are asked to save this list and post it so someone can examine it and advise you as to what you should remove, you can click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into a reply in the topic you are getting help in.
You can copy it to the first Reply with your HJT log in it, or make a second post if you wish or are unsure how to Edit your first reply.

Yeah.. sorry about that. I just assumed that MSN's video calls (webcam w/ sound) used p2p connection.

As for the game, It is called Dungeon Fighter Online:

"When making a party with someone, make sure that you are in the same region as the person you are trying to party with, or the system may not recognize that player as being online. If you are in the same screen as someone and are still having trouble getting into a party with them, it may be because the internet connection of one or both players is unstable, and you may wish to try partying with someone else. When in a party, look at the top of the screen where it lists the party members. If you see a computer icon, this means that there is a latency issue between you and that party member. If you go into a dungeon with them, you may experience lag."


In reference to complains about Dungeon Fighters:

"Lag: P2P. Also known as Peer 2 Peer. Quite frankly, in Asia, it's not that bad. In fact, it's pretty good, since they only have a few types of connections. However, in NA, we have a bajillion different companies out and have a plethora of connection types, and thus, here in NA P2P is very unreliable and basically random. It can cause extreme lag for someone next door to you while you're both in the right server, with the same connections, but can work fine with someone across the country with a different connection type. Basically, P2P sucks in NA and servers are the way to go if you want dependable connections with peers."

Just trying to illustrate that it does infact use p2p, based on a much less ill-informed decision.

Thank you for giving this a look. I'd just like to be able to play with friends. And I'm in a long distance relationship, and any strain on my ability to talk to my girlfriend is a strain directly on the relationship :/.

Well, the HJT log does not seem infected but pretty "busy"..... I am not going to be able to help with your gaming, the P2P is not the problem as party play is a bit different than the types of P2P that are violations at TSG as far as I am concerned....

I just am not experienced at all, and from what I read at several DFO and game forums, lagging in party play since the last patch is being reported as common.... the other reasons, are closeness of players and so on, things that you know already.

You should be able to pick up a few tips in those type forums, way easier than around here.

I would suggest this is not a networking problem. I suggest you post again in the Web and Email forum and simply explain the problem with your Video call (giving specifics about what software you are using), and leave out any reference to P2P. After all, you are only assuming/guessing that that is even the problem.

I would also suggest that you get that one figured out first, since that seems to be the more important problem to resolve, and later, after this is figured out, post the problem with the game (if indeed it is even still giving you a problem). You could mention that you are having a similar problem with gaming online with other players and leave it at that. It may be related, it may not, but it's best to mention the things you think might be related, yet have a single, specific problem to work on specifically. Otherwise it becomes too confusing when trying to solve something in this media (forums and threads). Keep it simple, and try to keep it a single element.

Once you've created a thread in the Web and Email forum for the Video call problem, I'll close this one.
