Wireless Netwok adapter is not being recognised.
So here's the problem, I have a network card I was try to get to work under ubuntu. Previously when running Vista and the card worked fine, until I pulled out the card form the PCI slot to figure out the product information. Now the card is not recognized in either Ubuntu or Vista.

Now in order to get on the internet I have to plug directly into the router with a Ethernet cable.

Here are the Specs:
Compaq Presario Desktop
2.0 GHz AMD Athlon 64 2x
Dualbooting Vista Premium and Ubuntu Studio 9.10

The card is a Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card
F5D7000 ver. 5100

I'm just starting to get my feet wet in networking in Ubuntu, so clear instructions would be nice.

Also is it there a way to check if the card was fried through static electricity.

Sounds like the card might be a dead parrot! Can you check in Vista under device manager....network adapters to see if the Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card F5D7000 ver. 5100 is recognised. If it is does it have a yellow exclaimation next to it. Try re-installing the software driver if you have a CD that came with it. Or search Belkin.com for Vista and Ubuntu drivers for that type of card?

If you need help getting to Device Manager in Vista see the link below:

P.S. Do you now how to enter the computer BIOS settings when the machine 1st starts power on? There might be a PCI settings section of the BIOS that needs to recognise the card again?

Otherwise my guess is the card is toasted.

Well it works, sorta...
Apparently the card didn't get toasted.

I took the card out pushed a few wires together and use the good ol' compressed air. When i put the card back in it was picked up in Vista and reinstalled the drivers. Card works, in fact using it right now. However Ubuntu is a different story. It put up another pretty green light on the back of the computer but thats about it. No internet. I'm gonna try an nids (something like that) wrapper to see if that helps.

Anyone have much experience with networking on Linux? I would like to be able to ditch this 50ft Ethernet Cable.
