Question Loss of wireless printer
Hi can anyone help?

I've just installed Bitdefender 2010 Total Security onto both my laptop running Vista and my pc with Windows 7.
Having done this I've now lost access to my wireless printer (an HP C7280) which worked fine prior to installation.
However, when the firewall is turned off it works ok!?

I would point out that I'm able to ping the printer even with the BD firewall on.

Many thanks in advance.

can you go onto the firewall settings and set up access to a local home network with an IP range
then anything on your internal IPS (usually 192.168.x.x ) can get through the firewall
I know you could do this on zonealarm and norton

Do you want me to go to the firewall settings in the router software or in the Bitdefender software?

BTW, I can now print from my laptop as I've changed the Trust Level to Trusted Local in the Bitdefender firewall settings.

Having done the same on W7 it didn't help

I'd better mention that W7 is running on my MacPro under Bootcamp and my Mac prints ok.

Yep Bitdefender, seems that you have effectively done what I asked by the Trusted Local

A bt confused as to what machine running what software works

Laptop - working OK
Macpro - W7, under bootcamp - does not work
Macpro - MacOS - works

I dont know W7 or MAC - so lets see what response you get from the networking forum, otherwise we may need to move to the W7 forum or MAC forum.

Macpro - W7, under bootcamp - does not work

Did it stop working on the W7 Macpro when you installed bitdefender

so its just bitdefender and it has NOT caused any other problem on the PC
just need to look through the settings and see if you can make it allow on your local area
something more advanced then the trust local

You could look at the activity
http://www.downloadatoz.com/manual/b....activity.html
and see what it blocks when you try to access the printer
possibly a port ?

the activity is just a log of what bitdefender is doing, what I'm hoping to see is a log of all activity that bitdefender has stopped
so if you tr and print wirelessly - a program will show up as being blocked at the time you requested access to the printer

mentioned here
Quote:
check the BitDefender Firewall log file that can be viewed by clicking Show Log.
it may be possible to copy and past here

We just need to investigate a little further why bitdefender is blocking and what its blocking
I'll try and see if theres a help file on the site anywhere
