Friends,
I've been having some problems when downloading torrents.
I have an Opticom DSLink 260E modem connected to a Belkin Wireless G Router. When my computer is connected with a cable (wired), I can download torrents perfectly well; but when I don't use a cable (wireless), every time I try to download something via torrent, my internet connection gets frozen and then I simply lose it. Then I have to reboot my laptop PC and even reboot the modem so that everything goes back to normal.
I've heard that, for downloading torrents with a wireless connection without having problems, there are some settings we need to do on the modem (or on the wireless router, I'm not sure). Well, I've already searched the net for it, but couldn't find anything. Maybe I'm not searching it correctly. In fact, I really don't even know exactly what to search for, so I would like you to help me, if possible.
Today I'm using Windows 7, but I'm quite sure the operating system is not the problem, for it has already happened on Windows XP and Vista as well. The program I use for downloading torrents is BitComet (always the last version because I often update it). I've also tested uTorrent. Same thing. So, the torrent program seems not to be the problem either, unless there are settings I have to do on them that I'm missing.
For port forwarding, I've followed the tips from the PortForward.com website related to BitComet (fixed listen port, UPnP Port Mapping disabled).
I don't use static IP address, but I've already tried it and the problem persisted.
So, as I said before, I imagine the solution is something related to the modem (or router, or both) settings.
I've already tried some DOS commands which I had found on some websites. Take a look:
modify nbsize maxipsess 512
modify nat global udptimeout 5
modify nat global disable
modify nat global tcpidletimeout 3600
modify nat global tcpclosewait 30
modify nat global tcptimeout 30
modify nat global udptimeout 45
modify nat global portend 60000
modify nat global enable
But my modem didn't even recognize these commands. As a matter of fact, I'm not really sure if they would really help and solve the problem. I just found them during my searches.
Please, guys, could you help me solve my problem? It's a real pain to use my laptop with a cable every time I want to download torrents. There must be a way to use it wireless. I can't believe there's no solution.
Thank you very much for your attention.
