Simple way to change IP address of access point?
Hi there, I would like to link my PS3 to an access point/adapter to increase bitrate so I can stream HD movies wireless from PC to PS3.

I bought an Sitecom access point that I need to configure however I cannot login to the configuration screen because the IP address is not in the right range.

My set up is that I have a modem/router with behind that a router. I added the second router as the modem/router I got from my ISP has very limited range, so I was advised to put a more powerful router behind the modem/router and switch off the router and link the second router to the modem/router. The IP address of my router 1 is 192.168.1.1 and I have DHCP switched on. The router 2 has 192.168.1.200 and DHCP is switched off. The access point has 192.168.0.234 and so that is why I probably cannot get into the config screen..right?

The current set up works perfect for all I wanted to do and I spent lots of time in setting it up so I would not like to change IP ranges of these routers to get the access point connected for configuration purposes. Is there a simple way to get into the access point without going through changing the settings of the routers, as I am not looking forward to another night of swearing and cursing...

The manual says I need to link the access point to the router and then log into the access point using the IP address as given above. Could someone help me out here? Thanks a lot

Plug into the Sitecom directly, give your computer a static IP in the same subnet as the Sitecome, change the IP of the Sitecom to match the rest of your network and then remove your static IP.

Thanks for the quick reply! It sounds simple indeed, but how do I change the IP address of my PC (and change it back?)

Ok, I checked and found in my connection settings that I use for connecting to the router 2 that I can change the IP address to a fixed one. However there are 2 ways, IPv4 and IPv6, system won't let me change it in IPv6 and says the IP is not valid; IPv4 lets me change the IP address (changed it to 192.168.0.100) but when I link the access point to the PC with a wire it still does not see the access point (page unavailable). Do I need to do something else - restarting or something else?

Is the 192.168.0.100 the correct default address for the Access Point? I think you would need a crossover cable to connect the AP directly to your computers NIC. Just connect the AP to a LAN port on the router.

The default IP address of my access point I don't know but the IP address to configure it is 192.168.0.234 (maybe this is the same as the default?). I set a static IP on my PC using 192.168.0.100 as I thought this would be in the same subnet 192.168.0.xxx (again, am definitely not an expert!). In the manual it says I need to connect the access point to the router and then configure but as described, I cannot do this.

So I will go with the suggestion and get a crossover cable to connect the access point directly to PC (iso through router); question is then - do I need to change the IP address of my PC to static as well and if so, which address should I then use? Thanks again guys, all very helpfull.
