Impossible? to solve - one computer slow network printing
Hi there,
I have spent days and days on this problem and am hoping someone out there can help me. I have an Epson Workforce 600 network printer, connected wirelessly to my home network. Signal is extremely strong. Computer #1, which is XP, is having no problems using the printer normally. Computer #2, which is XP Media Center edition, can print to the printer, but it is very very slow. If I go into printer properties, it literally takes about 30 seconds for the printer properties screen to pop up on the screen.

I was hoping this Hotfix would solve it, but it did not. Here it is:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970048

Here are the things I've tried on computer #2:

1. Uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers, rebooting each time, many times.
2. Went into printer properties, then ports, and selected "RAW" vs "LPR" under port configuration.
3. Created a new user profile on computer #2, did not help.
4. Deleted all unused/old printers.
5. Manually added the printer using Epsonnet printer port.
6. Tried "sharing" the printer from computer #1, adding it to my printers on computer #2, still same problem.
7. Updated all drivers from Dell's website for the computer, windows update is current.
8. Full virus/spy scan with Kaspersky and Malwarebytes.
9. Deleted all printers, rebooted, added back again.
10. Cursed at computer.

Microsoft Word times out waiting for the printer so it's more than just an annoyance - I don't have access to this printer on computer #2.

Thanks for any and all suggestions. I'm usually pretty good at this stuff and am frustrated I can't figure it out.

Just want to add... from computer #2 (the "problem" computer) I can log into the printer by typing 192.168.1.6 in the address screen of firefox. I then immediately see the following:

Printer Name : EPSON60DDF1
Connection Status : Wireless LAN-54Mbps
Signal Strength : Excellent
Obtain IP Address : Auto
IP Address : 192.168.1.6
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1
Wireless LAN Setup : Manual
Communication Mode : Infrastructure
SSID : rxxx2
Security Level : WPA-PSK(TKIP)

Wow, 47 views and no responses... I guess this one *is* impossible to resolve!

A dumb question, have you tried connecting that printer directly to the router with a wired connection? I had similar issues with an HP C7280 with wireless printing, wired it works just fine.

Hi - no such thing as a dumb question with this problem! Yes, I also attached it wired to the LAN and the issue persists. The only thing I haven't tried is connecting it (recently) the the computer with the USB cable. I wonder if this issue is some sort of legacy holdover form it previously being connected with the USB cable? Like it's searching that "old" connection and THEN going to the LAN / wireless connection?

Well, you might try using Revo Uninstaller to totally uninstall all the drivers and software from the machine, reboot and install it again.

Does the problem computer have any other issues with networking or Internet access speed? Maybe this isn't directly a printer problem. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode with Networking and seeing if it'll print normally that way?

Ok - I tried all of the above... deleted all the drivers with Revo.... reloaded them... no progress. Same issue. Network speed is very fast otherwise. Tried booting into safe mode with networking but printers don't display in that mode.

Any other ideas?
