familiar problem - connection
hi

i just had a new netbook delivered, cheap, just for net access really as my laptop died (was 5 years old).

the new one will not connect to the wireless router, which is a DrayTek.

Three other laptops connect fine (one being my old, dead one) but the netbook will not, it states acquiring network address for an age, then not connected.

Tried right click repair but that could not renew IP address and so failed.

I imagine this is going to be a pretty easy fix, just I don't know what that is.

Running XP with SP3

i think dhcp and tcp/ip are both ok in services menu, networ type is set as infrastructure in advanced settings and the router is set to wpa-psk and tkip, though when i set my wireless to this it will occassionally re-set itself to wpa2-psk and aes when i check again.

any ideas? it's very frustrating that it wouldn't just switch on and work!

thanks

For a first test, change your router to unsecured wireless network and disable MAC address filtering if appropriate. If the netbook will connect unsecured, then try the various different security options until you find one that works.
