DNS timing out! Help needed
I have a WAG325N and I have a problem where the internet would stop and apps like msn would still keep running but when I restart them they would stop. This problem also occurs on the iPhone which is also wireless. So I have to restart the wireless every time in order to get everything back on. I did a bit of research and figured out that its a DNS issue. I ran 'cmd' then 'nslookup google.com' when the internet stopped and I get dns timed out message. I was wondering how do I stop the DNS from timing out on my router?

PS - in order to change settings on this router does it have to be wired or can i just do it wirelessly?

Thanks

I answer to your PS:It is always better to make router changes on a wired connection.
And,when you have the problem, let's see this:
From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address> For addresses,follow instructions below….

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING www.yahoo.com
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. IPV4 for Vista

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
______

And it would be helpful to see this in your working state on the same pc.

This goes until about '318' so im really confused ...also i don't think its to do with my pc itself i think its just a router issue because the same happens to iPhone aswell and also Xbox and PS3.

Do you get the same problem with an ethernet connection?

All those tunnel adapters indicates some major problem, but I don't know what. Try the following repairs to see if it clears up any of that. It's good for you to tell us how many are there, but the part of the ipconfig /all that may help is the first part--before the tunnel adapters.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Also might try this:

From a Johnwill postConfigure DHCP for Windows Vista.
1. Click on the Start menu, and select Control Panel.
2. Click on Network and Internet. (Skip this step if you do not see this Control Panel item.)
3. Click on Network and Sharing Center.
4. Click on Manage network connections.
5. Right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. If Windows say it needs your permission to continue, click Continue.
6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
7. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
8. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
9. Click OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window.
10. Click OK to close the Local Area Connection Properties window.
11. Click Close to close the Network Connections window.
12. Click Close to close the Control Panel window.
13. Restart your computer.
