Constantly disconnected
I have Verizon and a Toshiba laptop. I have been getting disconnected several times a day for a few mins. at a time. I have made so many calls to Verizon that I know exactly what they're going to tell me. Before we hang up I'm connected again and they say there's no problem on the line. I tell them that they will be hearing from me again in the next day or the next week with the same problem. Now they're telling me it's a problem with the laptop and not Verizon.

I have a Westell 7500 router which is about 2 ft. max away from the computer and even when all the lights are on I still get disconnected from my wireless. I have a splitter on my line. I now keep an ethernet cable near by. I've had 2 tech guys come to the apt. to "fix" the problem but it still persists. I even keep the Verizon connect page (192.168.1.1) on all day to watch the connection go on and off.

So, even though the lights are on on the router and the all the bars are lit up saying I have an "excellent" connection I am going off line. I know others here have had the same problem. Please help! If there's any info I've left out let me know.

does it disconnect when connect by cable

just to clarify - when it disconnects
the Router Status Connection Page - says you are connected
The lights on the router are all ON indicating a correct connection

do the following when its all working and again when it disconnects

{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here

TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Ping Tests}
Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Ping google.com
Post back the results

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Ping 192.168.1.1
post back the results

Ping 209.191.93.53
post back results

The router status page will show me when wireless is not connected. I keep the page up so I can look at it frequently to see what the status is when I disconnect. I can't see that info when I look at the Local and Internet Access bar on my toolbar.

Is this the info you asked for? :

does it disconnect when connect by cable
can you connect with a cable and monitor

We need to isolate to a Wireless Issue, PC issue, Router Issue, ISP Issue - process of elimination needed

can you do all the pings - all three

and the ipconfig /all

No, it doesn't disconnect when the ethernet cable is connected.
Then its most likely the wireless thats the issue ... not the ISP

No public info there

So now we can see what you lose when it disconnects

as its a wireless issue
a few things we can try
One - remove any wireless secruity/encryption on the wireless - see if that still disconnects

next
change the channels used on the wireless - thats set up in the router - choose from 1 or 6 or 11

I'm on UK time so not back till tomorrow GMT

I've gone from 6 to 11 and now it's on 9. No change.

"remove any wireless secruity/encryption on the wireless - see if that still disconnects"

Not sure how to do that.

can you post all the tests when it disconnects

ipconfig /all
and the three pings - lets see what we are trying to fix

1) we want to see if you really lose connection to the router
2) if you really lose connection to the interent
3) if its a dns issue
those three ping tests will test those conditions depending on results depends on next move

keep on a channel 1 or 6 or 11 they should not overlap

it may also be worth downloading the latest wireless driver for that PC

The wireless encryption if ON will be set up in the router in the wireless section so should be in same section as changing channels
the settings maybe disable or OFF / WEP / WPA
we want to disable or turn off the encryption

Ok, I turned of the encryption and changed the channel back to 11. I'll run thru everything again while not wirelessly connected and post. You'll see them when you get up tomorrow. Thank you for your help. Have a good night.

you say it never discionnects on Cable
So we need to have the PC connected by Wireless
With the Secruity OFF and ch 11 chosen

Now when it disconnects
do the ipconfig /all
and
Three PINGS
save them into Notepad
so then when you reconnect you can copy and paste from notepad to here

Sorry, first chance I've had all day to look at this.

The second set of read out were with me being disconnected from wireless. Isn't that what you're asking for?
