can you post make and model of the PC - or if self built otherboard or NIC device

have a look in device manager
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} > network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X

for windows 7
start > control panel>
System and Security>
Device Manager

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
moved to networking

Sounds like you need the drivers for your onboard ethernet card?

Go to your computer manufactures website, or the website for the company that made the motherboard and find their download section and locate the model of either the mobo you have or computer you have depending on which website you end up on.
