Solved: Ongoing Wireless Connection Issues
I am having difficulty remaining connected to my wireless network. If I am connected for a period of no less than a week, I will eventually lose connection for several days. One strange thing that also happens is that when I do try reconnecting to my network it stays connected for 30 seconds to about 1 minute. Another thing I sometimes notice is after getting disconnected and trying to immediately reconnect I will receive an ip address conflict message. I have looked in my router's setup page and have not found any ip address conflicts. I have also allowed the computer's MAC address in the router. There are 3 other computers connected to the network (not simultaneously) and they have no issues. I am also able to connect to a nearby unencrypted network without any issues. This problem has been occuring for around two or three weeks about 2 weeks after I upgraded from Vista.

Some additional information:
Router: Linksys Wireless N 4 port
Wireless Network : WPA
Wireless Adapter: Gigabyte GN-WP01GS PCI WLAN Card(Turbo)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

check to see if there is an updated wireless driver in the manufacturers site

Take your secruity off your router and see if that fixes the issue - then you know its a secruity issue ....

it may also be worth changing the channel the wireless is using in the router - use channel 1 or 6 or 11

can you also post do this - when its connected and repeat all the test when it disconnects

{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here

TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Ping Tests}
Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Ping google.com
Post back the results

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Ping 209.191.93.53
post back results

Unfortunately, I am having an extremely difficult time in connecting to do the first part of the test. I stay connected for about 10 secs. I tried disabling security, but that did not help nor did adjusting channels. One thing I discovered was that according to the Windows 7 network troubleshooter my DNS server is not working right.

Here are the results I have from the disconnected state. I am not sure if this will be enough however, since you also asked for the results when connected.

Yes, but I should add that as of a few hours ago only 2 computers can now access wireless. This is crazy

Consider rebooting once a week. Seriously, if the router is reset while a computer is still alive and still has an IP lease you can end up with IP address conflicts, which is one of the symptoms you reported.

Start fresh by unplugging the router and shutting down all computers. Then plug in the router followed by booting the computers.

I managed to fix the problem. I actually had already tried rebooting the router yesterday, but I forgot one thing which in hindsight I should have done and that is, calling the ISP. So after talking with them apparently they did an update to their systems which incidentally was at the same time I started noticing the problem. They reset the connection on their end and now my computers are running fine with no disconnects.

Thank you guys for all your assistance. If anything you have taught me how to better troubleshoot wireless networks( not really my forte). In the event I start losing connection again, I will post something new.
