Talking Wireless drops out on one laptop... but others work?!?
Hello, newbie here and seeking help for an odd problem.

Symptoms: Laptop (Asus Eee 1101HA) will connect to wireless, stays on for 30-60 mins and then drops connection for 5-10 minutes and then works again. It still says 'connected' during this time to the wireless but won't work on any browser. Despite this, the iPhone and another laptop continue to work without problems. If you shut it down and restart it then it will work again.

Hardware:
SKY Netgear Router DG834GT
Asus Eee 1101HA

Software:
Windows XP SP2
AVG Anti Virus (have tried without firewall and without AVG as well, but problems continue)

Person:
Me, reasonable technical knowledge, have logged into the router to see if anything obvious was there but that's where I got lost. So... Can anyone help me?

More than happy to provide more info. Thank you very much!

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, paste a screen shot of the main screen here.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I'd first change your channel to 9 from that display, there are three networks on channel 1.

Right, changed it to channel 9... is that all the problem is?

To be fair, that's a superb answer! Bookmarked it and I'll pop back if the problem arises again!

Many thanks for now...

Let us know if that fixes it, and if it doesn't, come back and we'll work it a bit deeper. I go for the simple fixes first.

Nooooooo!!! Thought that had cured the problem but, lo and behold, the laptop is working it's magic again today and cutting out every half hour/hour. Any other ideas? I have changed the channel to something that no one else in our neighbourhood has.

Sorry to be a pain.

theoretically, it sounds like a hidden node problem, too many packets being lost in collisions. I'm not sure, but do the wireless routers these days all have their RTS/CTS set by default?

Err, might need to explain that a bit better, what exactly is it I would need to check and where?

Try changing to channel 3 or 4 and see if that helps.

johnwill can you explain your logic?
there should a 5 channel spacing between networks. So if there are 3 on channel 1, and if channel 9 is not working for him, how will channel 3 or 4 work?
